Our Story
The beginning of the ministry now called The Open House was in 2014 when a young adult ministry was launched at Pfrimmer’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Through this ministry 25-30 young adults regularly met in the summer months when many were back in the area from college and a few during the rest of the year. As the ministry solidified, the group began to explore other ways to embed themselves into the community and make a difference for Jesus Christ in Corydon, Indiana. A group of 12 individuals originally a part of the young adult ministry began praying and dreaming of a community that would meet publicly somewhere in Corydon.
A clear and obvious location emerged in KentJava Bar in Downtown Corydon. With the agreement and enthusiasm of Sherry Watson, owner of KentJava Bar, and the leadership of Pfrimmer’s Chapel, the team proceeded to plan and unknowingly launch the church we know today in October 2016. In October 2017, we began offering a free meal and worship service at the Harrison County Discovery Center each Sunday in addition to our community events at KentJava Bar. In November 2018, The Open House acquired a more permanent property of their own at 324 E. Walnut Street in Downtown Corydon. The first house church was celebrated at the new property on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019. In July 2020, two new house church pastors were commissioned. In November 2020, a second house church was launched.

Our Beliefs
The Open House is a church plant of the United Methodist Church, rooted in the Wesleyan tradition of Christianity. Our beliefs can be best summed up by the following:
We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried.
On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
